Die Stadt Schweich prüft derzeit den Aufbau eines klimafreundlichen Nahwärmenetzes, das seine Energie künftig aus einer Groß-Flusswärmepumpe in der Mosel beziehen könnte. Wie Klimaschutzmanager Florian Merten in einem Bericht des Volksfreundes erklärt, bietet die Mosel selbst im Winter mit Wassertemperaturen von durchschnittlich 10 bis 12 Grad Celsius ein enormes energetisches Potenzial für die Region. Die Technik entzieht dem Flusswasser Wärmeenergie und hebt diese über Verdichter auf ein Temperaturniveau, das zur Beheizung von Großabnehmern wie Schulen, dem Freibad oder der Polizei genutzt werden kann.
