In Trier werden jährlich rund 5.300 Tonnen Fleisch konsumiert, was einem Pro-Kopf-Verbrauch von 51,6 Kilogramm entspricht. Darüber berichtet die Gewerkschaft Nahrung, Genuss, Gaststätten. Trotz eines Rückgangs der Zahlen bleibt Fleisch ein wichtiges Nahrungsmittel. Die NGG kritisiert die niedrigen Löhne in der Fleischindustrie, wo viele Beschäftigte nur den Mindestlohn von 12,82 Euro pro Stunde verdienen. Geschäftsführer Jerome Frantz fordert dagegen mindestens 14,50 Euro. Die Tarifverhandlungen für die Fleischindustrie beginnen Anfang Februar.
